Conclusion Celebration
Message from ED
Dear Community Leader,
Given your active leadership in our community, we know that you have heard many messages about the 2020 Census, one of which is that the Census matters. This is true: its findings will translate into money to our communities from the federal and state governments; representation in Congress; and ensuring that other stakeholders such as state and local government, nonprofit organizations, and private leaders know what our communities will need in order to thrive.
Previous Census efforts have identified “hard to count” communities, including Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals, immigrants and refugees, and children under the age of 4. Given what we know about our API communities statewide, our Council believes that a complete count committee dedicated specifically to our community is in the interest of the state of Minnesota.
Therefore, we invite you to join the API Complete Count Committee (CCC), to ensure that all API Minnesotans participate fully in the 2020 Census.
Minnesota’s API CCC will consist of Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders such as yourself. The API CCC is charged with the following:
- Convening a geographically and ethnically diverse group of API community leaders, whose focus is raising awareness of the 2020 Census in Minnesota
- Developing and implementing culturally-appropriate strategies to reach hard-to-count residents
- Building and maintaining trust among stakeholders with the U.S. Census Bureau, the MN Dept. of Administration, as well as other state and local government entities
- Generating coalitions within individual communities to act upon API CCC developed strategies
The accomplishments of the API CCC will be driven by its members. As community leaders, we know that accurate and timely information, and outreach can impact the extent to which our communities will participate. The API CCC can meet as often as it deems necessary, between its first meeting and when it sunsets in July 2020. We hope to have a full CCC by early November, and will advise this CCC to begin convening as soon as possible.
The API CCC will be facilitated by the Council and therefore, will report to the Council Board on a regular basis.
If you, or a designated representative, can serve on behalf of your community, please reply using the following link https://forms.gle/e5aRrrVAc2mTj1QR9.
Thank you for considering this request from our Council. We hope to hear from you by no later than October 23, 2019.
Regards,
Sia Her
